Recession Hits Broadway 15 Shows to Close.

Sad News 15 Broadway Shows to Close

I just read on drudge report that the recession and hard economic times have hit the Broadway community.  http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/usa/3691742/Broadway-hit-by-downturn.htmlthat 15 shows are closing. This is horrific news and that it is happening during the Holiday Season makes it even  tougher.

So why isn’t Congress going to bail out Broadway. Are actors, union workers and others in this industry less valuable than Detroit Auto Workers?

One response to “Recession Hits Broadway 15 Shows to Close.

  1. Fifteen isn’t quite as bad as it seems. There are always shows closing this time of year. Some of the shows that are closing were limited runs. Some were shows that had long, successful stints on Broadway. Others were shows that just never found an audience.

The big thing is that some of the shows that are still running aren’t selling all that many tickets. Even the shows that sell out every night are starting to have to do some advertising.

We’re definitely far from needing a bailout just yet.
