One of my personal favorite charities is Gods Love We Deliver. http://www.godslovewedeliver.org/ I always send them a monthly donation when I pay my monthly bills. My grandfather use to deliver meals on wheels http://www.mowaa.org/ for our local parish’s in Brooklyn and long island. As such I have always felt that donating to such organizations makes a direct impact on the lives of the less fortunate than I am society. However before any person donates they should check out the organization first at Charity Navigator a great site. http://www.charitynavigator.org/
God’s Love just sent me an invite gods-love3 to their annual dinner, but the ticket prices are off da hook as they say. Which leads me to the collateral damage that the collapse of Wall Street will have, as many non profit art and community organizations will be negatively impacted by the demise of Bear Stearns, AIG, Merrill, Lehman and there employees who were generous to NYC and it’s art institutioins. Crain’s details some of the loss to the overall ecomony at :http://www.crainsnewyork.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080908/FREE/809089975/1123/breaking.
In addition they document the impact to non profits as well: http://www.crainsnewyork.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080916/FREE/809169962
