Pirates have often been portrayed in the movies as daring, flashing, romantic probably due to romantic notions of mysticism and that pirates are some how sympathetic souls who are just misunderstood. However it is clear to me they ruthless thugs not Robbin hood’s with sails. I had no clue but news accounts indicate that the pirates have been getting bolder and bolder. Now that sophisticated Russian tanks are on the ship, international powers like America and Russia are now apparently policing the seas.
The great actor Errol Flynn displayed the ” class ” that many have associated with Pirates. Don’t you love it when you get home on a cold day, turn on the tube pour a class of nice Cabernet and AHHHHH a Hollywood Legend appears, and you realize what a ” star ” is. Sadly, today With Wall Street dropping and Congress rejecting the Wall Street Bailout, it makes me think that Paulson, Bush, Frank, Dodd are like damsels in distress. Shouting out for help crying in wolf like manner that they are captured by Pirates. If we don’t bail them out they will perish. Maybe therein lies the problem thes folks were elected to serve the public, but they engage in partisan self dealing behavior and are beholden to Lobbying Firms, and special interest groups. Paul Newman played Murphy in Fort Apache the Bronx. With so many so called New Yorker’s born, and raised in other parts of the country, they never knew old Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx. Even parts of Manhattan ( lower East Side, Upper West Side) which are now yuppie chic have completely lost there urban aura. I presently serve in the Bronx and this scene gets the essence of great cops. RIP Paul we love you and miss you a great American.
This week NYPD members in the Brooklyn we pre called to the scene of a naked man on a balcony wielding a fluorescent light bulb. An officer subsequently used his non lethal taser discharging it on the disturbed man who fell to his death. My condolence to his family. Many of us who have family members with medical conditions know the volatility of these folks who GOD did not grace with all the skills necessary to work, go to school and to fully survive on their own in this harsh world. The police encounters with the mentally ill are very complicated especially since police are non medical personnel. However, we are first responders and the golden rule is ” take all the time you need” . As such as here when police use force and an injury or death occurs a strict review of the encounter is conducted by the Department, DA, as well as family, community, elected officials and community leaders. This death and other encounters in which a mentally ill person is hurt or injured can erode confidence in the police department. While I can’t change this tragedy, it reminds me that decisions I make must safeguard the public first and foremost. I respectfully ask the public and my friends to realize that Police Officer’s throughout the nation successfully render aid to thousands of mentally ill persons and their families without incident. This encounter reminds us we need to reflect on out methods, modify them and implement changes that enhance our efforts to the public. It’s always amusing when you can related to a video. Here this Officer apparently left his car in gear, and luckily no one was hurt. He should have left the motorist off with a warning. I have no idea what agency he is from.
DEA Agents working in the Bronx this week seized drugs being hidden in children’s toys. http://www.wnbc.com/news/17541067/detail.html While drug dealers will always try to camouflage, disguise, hide, evade and trick Police Officers the use of children albeit here toys is troubling. I have recovered drugs and guns in baby carriages and in the beds and furniture in a child’s room. That dealers would endanger and place their children in such proximity to unlawful, dangerous, toxic and potentially fatal substance demonstrates they have no conscious what so ever. Most recreational users disregard the risk and dangerous behavior that drug dealers engage in to facilitate their trade. In this arrest a loaded firearm was also recovered.
This investigation appears to be ongoing. However McCains announcement that he wants to postpone the debate with Senator Obama may be a sign that team McCain is calling a time out and re-focusing the campaign. This reminds me of the McGovern campaign where Eagleton his Vice Presidential Candidate failed to disclose that he had received medial treatment for psychiatric matters. McGovern’s campaign never gained footing thereafter as he was unfairly deemed not even capable of picking a proper running mate and thereby how could be be an effective President.

While it may be vogue to be gay today, in many professions being gay can threaten a persons career. Additionally, while there are many laws that protect GLBT’s from discrimination and harassment in the work place those who are subjected to such abuse may be severely scarred. My boyfriend has a friend who is a teacher, and fears that if he is outed parents will make him an outcast in the community. Such a concern may be well founded especially in less progressive states where there are few laws to protect GLBT community members.
The GLBT community has worked hard to make the world and America a more tolerant country and as a nation I think we have made tremendous strides in improving and accepting GLBT persons in our society.
However, in many parts of the GLBT community, a person working for a Republican is a traitor an uncle tom a sell out and labeled a self hating homosexual. In this election many in the GLBT community are finding uber schadenfreude in the outing of Mc Cain’s chief of staff Mark Buse.
I find this vision to be judgmental and insensitive to the individual rights of every GLBT person to live the life they chose the most precious right is “the right to be left alone” to marry, love, live, work, share, care, play” as you chose, so long as you don’t harm another person.
Having said this the issue in this election is Caeser Paulson and the cataclismic events on wall street which threaten our entire way of life. The dollar is doomed and un elected GOLDMAN personnel who materially contributed to the derivate , debt swap pacaging and pushed the eject button like fighter piolts with golden parachute’s now want to crash into the safe haven of tax dollars.
In August 2007 the world was introduced to bathroom sex via U.S. Senator Larry Craig. Now George Michael an apparent crack abuser was busted in England. According to the press a lavatory worker reported George’s suspicious behavior in an about a public bathroom.
